This research work is titled “Information and communication technology in accounting practices, problems and prospects. A case study of data processing unit ministry of finance, Bauchi. It aims at ensuring the proper application of ICT to accounting practices in an organization, in addition to the training of personals to be computer literates in order to be able to interpret accounting information and also the introduction of locally produced customized software for accounting practices that are of lesser cost. Based on the set objectives of this study the research methodology employed are the primary and secondary methods(questionnaire method, interview method, library method). The hypothesis formulated was tested with the aid of Chi-square statistical method, hence from the analysis of data generated and with the aid of Chi-square statistical method the following findings were concluded. It is very vital that financial information be computerized in small and large including public and private organizations as this will help them to save and manage their time, reduce too much paper work, increase their level of accuracy and build confidence for the organization. This study suggests that since ICT is intensive and its success depends on high skilled, trained and productive manpower, government as well as organizations should train their staff on ICT programmes by organizing workshops, seminars etc.
