Abstract

Antimicrobial activities of methanol and hot water aqueous extracts of garlic and bitterleaf on Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus and Escherichia coli were evaluated. The disc well diffusion method was used to determine the inhibitory concentrations of the extracts. 500×10-1, 500×10-2, 500×10-3, 500×10-4, 500×10-5 was used in the preparation of different concentrations of the extracts. The crude methanol extracts of garlic has inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus Escherichia coli and also the crude methanol extract of bitterleaf has inhibitory effect against Staphylococcusaureus, Streptococcus and Escherichia coli but not on the entire concentrations. The crude hot water extract of both garlic and bitter leaf has inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus and Escherichia coli but not on the entire concentrations.
